Finally got to see this new vegie joint located at the corner or Mo. Ignacia and Roces Sts. in Quezon City, beside Moomba. I was impressed by the size of the store and the variety of the menu. They got grilled stuff, pizza, pasta and a lot of stewed concoctions. What we got here is the initial salvo with vegie liempo, sisig and sweet and sour 'pork'. Very nice, although the sisig doesn't quite match that of Greens though. Pretty good stuff and the price is reasonable. Will definitely go back.

Celtics starting to turn this season around with Pierce anchoring the offense and some reserves stepping up in the absence of Rajon and Ray-ray. Sox, meanwhile, still couldn't add a legit starting pitcher. What gives?

Had a weird Chinese New Year day today. Had to go to the office because of an urgent need to finish a pleading for a client, then got this awesome lunch at Greens Resto. Vegie Pakora and Ginisang Pechay combo with java rice. Yeah, one of those days that you can eat a combo at Greens and not settle for barbecue.

I then went to the dentist or the grim reaper's office, whichever is acceptable to you, to have a dental surgery on another impacted tooth. Fck that sht. Can you say pain and suffering?

By the way, the HTB going out show last night at the 'Royal Rumble' was awesome. Bodies were flying all over with smiles on their faces. Thanks HTB.

Currently watching: Ghost Fighter series. I'm not doing anything tomorrow so I'll just watch a lot of these episodes.

This post could use more substance but my brain has yet to kick to overdrive. Had fun recording drum tracks for the new Bystorm full-length 'Sumalangitnawa' at Positivity Studios. Then headed to IDB Bar at Paranaque City for the Richard Collier tribute night. Saw some new wicked punk rock bands from Cavite such as Past The Fence and Royce and the guy who played some acoustic tunes that made the crowd go 'awwww'. Good stuff. RICHARD COLLIER played for almost an hour and drained all my energy. F'n sweat in the eyes. Burn. Probably be posting more on this later.

Recently found out that there is a Mexicali located at the Promenade. Where there's a Mexicali, there's a Garden Burger (their version of vegie burger). Also found out that they made some variations and they now have a smaller vegie burger for half the price of the original one. It's also served with fries instead of nachos. Good idea. The patty on the junior burger is pretty thin though. With the right amount of garlic and chili sauce, it's bound to be awesome.

Finally got to reviewing the 5th issue of RTC. Had a prepared review of this one but for some reason I failed to post it. RTC is one of the zine that had been constantly appearing the past two years or so. This time he interviewed three zine makers: Dane of IRH, Jep of Konspirazine and Joseph of Incidental Afterthought. Got some good stuff to say too and some funny comments from the editor as well as the interviewees. Also features some columns from the editor, Archi of Guerra Mundial, Monina and Odessa. Best part of the zine is a look back at past and present powerviolence bands from the Philippines. But seriously dude, Drastic Noise is not powerviolence. Starting off 2012 with a pun is always good in my book. This is a latter era Trash Talk version of 'Destroy'. Really cool silver/metallic lining on an "advanced" destroy look.

Big things to look for in 2012: Backtrack show on Feb. 10, 2012, new releases from Still Ill (FINALLY!), more local releases, change of attitudes, change of ideas. Red Sox winning the WS, new Bystorm record, etc.

Not so cool thing to look for in 2012: Half the Battle's last show this January (ugh.)

This is essentially the time of the year where I post that "it's the end of a fckd up year, and another one coming..." as sung by Embrace and post some top ten of the year. This year had its ups and downs, good shows, good music and good friends. There were a lot of terrible things that happened and even considered quitting on everything all together. But there are still a LOT of reasons to look forward to 2012. Let's learn from the negative things and move forward. No use in crying over spilled milk. I got a feeling that next year will be a lot better than this one.

I tried to make a traditional top ten or best of 2011 but nothing's coming out so before I go to my folk's house and celebrate new year with the people closest to me, here's a final post for 2011. Thanks for reading this blog the past year and hopefully I'll find the energy to continue doing it next year.

Asiong Salonga is a great film minus the cuts made to make it more viewer friendly., Hopefully, we can get our hands on the director's cut soon.

Taking a break from the furious holiday rush, we got to eat at Amici in the premises of Greenhills. The place has a really nice ambiance. We got some good ol' spaghetti pomodoro and vegie pizza. Good, good stuff. Price is not too steep as well. Good thing they got rid of customers waiting in line. They also have gelatos if you like that stuff.

Zine Review: I Remember Halloween No. 7.

Without question, IRH is at the center of the current influx of local zines the [ast couple of years. At a time, when there were no zines coming out, IRH became a model of consistency (content, layout and regularity-wise). This 7th issue features good interviews with local bands NO! (fast hc ala Kid Dynamite from Cebu City), Caitlyn Bailey (defunct screamo band from Davao City), Play (Bulacan's fastest!) and Duress from Chicago, IL. The most interesting part of the zine is an interesting article by Dane called 'Local Bins' wherein he tells interesting stories of his visit to local vinyl stores. Also features some music and zine review. Another good issue for IRH. (irememberhalloween@gmail.com)

Resilience is a rare thing in our community. Doing a zine for ten years (although it boils down to an issue per year, still), is example of resilience. CM recently celebrated its 10th year with a release party somewhere in Makati this month. Bands who were previously featured in CM got to play in the show. This 10th salvo features interesting reads from Sunday Driven Holiday (Cavite, the interview is pretty in-depth and covers a lot of ground), Crapsalad Videos (awesome read from one of the more underrated people we have in our local scene), not so interesting interviews with Lemuria and a couple of labels (except the Goodwill Records interview where you can feel the enthusiasm of the interviewees). Malabon/Navotas revival show.

Saw this posted on your fave social networking site. Apparently, this is a gathering of Malabon/Navotas based hc punk bands to revive the once thriving Malabon/Navotas scene. Great idea.I've always been a fan of regional scenes. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the area produced some of the great local hc bands of the 80s.

I still have a lot of stuff to post (zine/record/show reviews) and some random stories to tell but sht gets in the way. I used to be pretty excited to post something here. Anyway, it's not for the readers but for my personal consumption, the appreciation is just a bonus. So if things go well, I'll probably continue posting and if not then I guess a big thank you is in order.

The current: Sons of Anarchy (final episode), Boardwalk Empire, Cosa Nostra book, How I Met Your Mother, union meetings, Gameface 'Every Last Time', following the NBA and MLB story lines, HANGING OUT.

No Turning Back from the Netherlands is back for their second tour of duty in the Philippines. They'll be playing an early Thursday show at the Freedom Bar at Anonas, Quezon City. The local line-up is pretty foreign to me except Mihara and The Crimson Cartel. Make sure you come early because NTB will be playing somewhere in the middle of the line-up because they have a flight to catch to Cebu or Davao, I think.

Sup everyone? It's been a couple of weeks now since my last post and I've been really dragging posting here for the sole reason that I've been contemplating on stopping it all together. It has been three (?) years i think since I started this blog just to do write about things I like which circle around our little hc punk community but lately the drive just wasn't there. Maybe because of disappointment on some people, maybe on myself. Maybe it's just the natural course of things. We'll see.

A sampler of bands representing the ideals of Awakened Hope Collective with bands coming from Baguio City together with those from the metro and other nearby provinces. I was stoked to hear new materials from BC bands such as Prayer of Endurance, Limitbreak Crew, Forced March, Beyond Silent Wars and Tomb of Reason. There are also a preview of coming releases from The Crimson Cartel, Strongwill, xUnforcex and Bystorm. To wrap it up, Play, Half the Battle, Staid, Standout, Istukas Over Disneyland and Nuclear Punishment contribute one song each from their previous releases.

This is a good way to check out new bands from one area and their upcoming releases to update what’s happening on our local scene. Musical styles range from youth crew, thrash to NYHC influenced and metal-laden hardcore so this is a good treat for everyone. Forgot to post this earlier but this show will be happening tonight at a music studio beside the POEA and in front of Robinson's Galleria. If I'm not mistaken, the venue should be in the same area as that of the first zine con.

This will be the release show of The Prolets and Nevertheless. I've heard Nevertheless in a previous release but I have yet to hear The Prolets. Check it.

I've managed to see quite a few of these bands and they were all good and a few that I've yet too see. It's been a really long time since I've been in Batangas and I just wish I had the time to go there more often.

Arguably the best closer in Red Sox History has signed with the Phillies. Damn. This offseason is not going as well as I hoped. Mr. Cherington should have several pitching and hitting aces up in his sleeves. Otherwise the 2012 Red Sox will be worse than their 2011 version. Fck that sht.

This is the Project X shirt which accompanied the Bridge 9 reissue of their classic Schism record. Project X was a "secret superband" of sorts with hard and funny lyrics about being edge. Even their pseudonyms on the record were cool. Kid Stone is way better than Porcell.

Big weekend ahead of us. We'll be going first to the Kalye Art Gallery to catch the locals supporting the Coche Bomba show then head to Baguio City to play a show there with CB and the Baguio locals. Road trip!

The birthday days of October are gone but the celebration continues before the close of the month. Had a great time hanging out with the BS/GL crew last weekend, practice, hanging out and just shooting the sht over food and bottomless drinks. Fck yes.

November is here and it promises to be a busy final two (2) months of the year. We'll be going to the Baguio leg of the Coche Bomba tour on the 12th and start recording probably the week after.

At the start of the long weekend, I decided to make an inventory of the boxes at Still Ill Headquarters and lo and behold, I found some items that I thought did not exist anymore. WHAT’S COMING?

2011 has been a slow year for Still Ill, mostly because the projects that we thought were gonna be finished around June still haven’t materialized yet, including the following:

PLAY ‘full-length’ cassette (Reason: couple of more songs need vocal tracking)

RUSH IxDx ‘collection’ cassette (Reason: vocal tracking, guitar tracks were done this September finally)

V/A BIOFEEDBACK Tribute (Reason: we hit an unnecessary snag because of the song ‘This Frat for What’ which was reassigned to a project band by ex-The Weapon guys but did not materialize and was re-raffled to the guys from EAT ALL YOU CAN but again failed to see the light. So I’m still looking for a band to do this song. If you know a band or two, have them e-mail me and we’ll work out the details)

BYSTORM ‘Sumalangitnawa’ full-length (Reason: As you probably know by now, we had a guitarist change in what was supposed to be the start of our recording session at Positivity studios so we had to ‘restart’ and work it out for a new months but so far the results have been pretty good and we’ll probably book time at the studio by the third or fourth week of November). We'll be having a new shirt available very soon so keep posted on that.

Cool shirt from our friends in Kuala Lumpur. Don't know if ELEVEN is still active these days though. They capture that youthful enthusiasm you would love in a hardcore band. Pretty nice guys too.

Got these last week after a crucial BS practice. Baked ziti covered in cheese in the amount I would assume is not really doctor-recommended. Also featured is a plain cheese pizza sandwiched between two NY-styled pizzas. Get this at Napoli around Timog Ave. Still have a nice thing going over there. Always a fun place to hang out.

Had a very good long weekend spent with friends and family. The Sunday St. crew never fails to deliver. Ssuupp?

Game 3 of the WS featured an offensive outburst from Pujols and the rest of the Cards. Wow. And I thought Texas would be the one to show their offensive might today.

What we got here is a J. Bannon-designed Rise and Fall shirt. If you don't like Rise and Fall, I question your taste of the core. R and F and Rot in Hell are the best bands out of Europe right now. What a game. Chris Carpenter beat Doc Holliday and the powerhouse Phillies to eliminate the latter. Yankees lost yesterday to Detroit so no NY, no Philly and no Boston in the World Series. Gives me a little comfort when Boston blew it in September that neither the Yanks or Phils advance. Good way to start the day.

Speaking of PLAY, we have all been eagerly awaiting for their follow-up to the three-way split but I got some discouraging news that they are not yet finished with the vocals. Bummer. it's been such a long time. Even the Rush IxDx record is not yet done even though the first half was done about 5 - 6 months ago. Don't ask me why. Still Ill has been slacking lately. Recommend some good local bands who want their releases to be pressed by Still Ill. I need something to boost my punk rock adrenaline.

Finally got my hands on this long-awaited issue of this local zine from San Pedro, Laguna. This issue contains well thought out interviews with Second Combat (Malaysia), Outlast (USA), True Colors (Belgium) among others. International youth crew flava! The interviews are a a pretty good read and gives you a good perspective on what's happening in the intl sxe community. It also features some reviews, articles, pics and some rants from the editor. A really good zine and if this is the future of our local zines, the future's so bright, we'll have to wear shades!

This has been on my playlist for the last two (2) weeks and there is good reason for it. This is the new project of Darwin from Richard Collier. If you have at least a small liking for Richard Collier, you're gonna love this new project. It takes off from where Richard Collier left off. This demo contains six (6) songs including a cover of 'The Killing Moon' from Echo and the Bunnymen. Really good, catchy songs. The quality of the recording is pretty good but with a better recording, this would have been an instant classic. Saw them play once and was really impressed. They'll be doing a few shows near you so get at it.

Definitely had one of the best Sundays for some time. The show last night was AMAZING. I would have posted a review but I can't find any decent pic or video floating in the web. Some of the highlights:

1. KAKTUS KARUKA and SUNDAY DRIVEN HOLIDAY nailed it last night. Best sets IMHO. The Caulfield Cult was a pleasant surprise as well.
2. F'n games all became alcohol drinking contests!
3. Hanging out the whole night with friends and those I haven't seen for a while.
4. Papajohn's after practice.
5. Making plans for Still Ill and some probable upcoming shows. Will keep you posted!

Some letdowns:

1. Some bands not being able to make it.
2. The god-damned RAIN.
3. Missing out on some sets.

BTT: This is the official on-field cap of the Boston Red Sox which a good friend got for me. The Red Sox has been slumping lately but hopefully they'll rebound with Lester on the mound.

UST is in the Final Four of the UAAP Basketball but settled for 4th place due to losing to NU today and FEU beating DLSU. UST vs. Ateneo in the semifinal round. Major upset coming to the Eagles who choked on the probability of a sweep yesterday.

Review: Ginseng Luzon 'Bit' CD-R.

I've already made a lengthy review of this CD-R but forgot to post it until my hard disk crashed two weeks ago. And just when I was about to do another review, I found out I lost the lyric/info sheet of this record. Not cool. Anyway, this is a collection of the recordings of GL. Some studio and other live recordings. Definitely influenced by Dischord (re: Fugazi) bands and some SST artists. If you've seen them live, you'll know how passionate these guys are about their work. As I've said earlier, I lost my copy of the lyric sheet which also contains their contact info. Anyone care to pitch in on how people can get a copy of this one?

We got a good variation of pesto sauce for all you pasta afficionados. This one's not your usual basil and cashew nut blend of pesto but a bit creamier than usual. Made it taste better definitely. Got this one at Carlo's Pizza. They have a few branches but its worth it.

Third day of a long weekend. Just came back from a far-flung home province of Cavite last night and battled and hour-long fiesta-induced traffic at Tanzucks, Cavite. Back and feet are still aching. Time to relax.

We have SDB (Sir Denver Bystorm for ya fools!) bringin out this very cool Judge 'What It Meant' shirt. Good colorway and I particularly like the back photo of a furious Mike Judge and Jimmy Yu looking tto spin kick someone while playing his bass guitar.

Very cool colorway of the infamous Trash Talk 'Destroy' shirt. Simple. Loud. Trash Talk is awesome. Check them out if you have been living under a rock. No news from them for a while now so maybe we can expect something big to drop or they will just drop off the map.

I was supposed to go to Ten02 last night to hang out with friends and check out The Crimson Cartel show but I was f'n TOO STRESSED at work from morning till nightime. Even when it was over, I could still feel the effects. I'm not one to whine about the effects of work and stress but this one is relatively sh*tty so i figured f*ck it. I tried to urge myself to go but I couldn't muster enough energy. Dropped like a sack of potatoes when I went home and woke up to this rainy Saturday morning.

Good stuff: reading and drinking coffee on a start of a rainy day LONG weekend, Champion's 'Promises Kept' blasting out of the speakers.

The Crimson Cartel will be playing their 1st year anniversary show this Friday at Ten02. Hopefully, these guys are done with their demo and will be available at this show. Saw them last time at Cavite with a new line-up. Hopefully, this one stays. Oh and Prayer of Endurance from Baguio City and Half the Battle will be playing as well so check them out.

Good sht right here. Bacon mozza-melt with vegie pattie. Ma'rouf got a double vegie patty. Can't understand how they finish that. A single pattie is too much. Really awesome stuff though. Best eaten while hanging out after a double-dose of practice. Pic by Led.

Yeah, I was a little surprised myself. But pretty cool design though. Cartoonish Mao with the FB logo on top. Good look. But this thing is huge for a L size shirt. Even for the big shirt wearing me. Bought this one during their recent tour here. More Pinoy punk rock bands based in other countries should visit and play for the home team. Just sayin. THE CAULFIELD CULT from Singapore will also be playing that night so there's an added bonus of checking them out aside from the wicked line-up. Awesome show last night! HTB and the Pag-asa crew delivered as promised. Good stuff from the show:

1. HTB reunion (nuff said!)
2. Play opening with 'In My Eyes', the crowd erupted as they did in their entire set
3. Bystorm playing after a few months (finally!)
4. Nuclear Punishment, Towards The End and all the other bands that played last night and the crowd who hanged out last night!
5. Best part : after party dance eruption (probably some videos in youtube right now...kidding)

Not so good stuff:

1. show started LATE. 930 or 10 I think. Not cool man.
2. that f'n police wannabe at Daang Hari. Made me lose my appetite.

All in all, it was a great night. Got to see some old friends. Plus it's Cavite. Fck yeah.

This is a book that I've wanted to feature here for a long time. A book dedicated to the 2004 Red Sox who finally won the World Series after 86 years of misery. Written by Stephen King (yes, THE Stephen King of Horror stories) and Stewart O' Nan, they documented the entire 2004 season from Spring Training to the duck parade when the RS finally lifter the Curse of the Bambino. Down 3-0 in the ALCS against the Yanks, the Sox achieved something no one n the baseball world has done and win 4 straight to win the series and proceeded to win the WS. Got this at bargain bins at Book Sale. Continue supporting that shop.

Good stuff: TB beating NY on a gloomy Saturday morning, Bystorm playing later tonight and hanging out with the rest of the crew. Life is good.

Half The Battle's playing tonight and this shirt is just appropriate for a cool Saturday morning and buying stuff for next month. Awesome back print too. I featured this shirt (Led) earlier but this one's a different colorway. Athletic grey shirts never goes out of style.

Check out this little vegie resto called Green Wok @ Matalino St. beside Quezon City Hall. Pretty tough to spot though but if you like Filipino vegie food then maybe you can hang with their style. This menudo concoction tastes like it was from a local carinderia. Good. Not great. They also have vegie burgers and stuff, gotta try it sometime.

Bystorm will be playing its first show in almost 2 or 3 months and we'll be playing with our new guitarist - Hubs - of Vex fame. Hopefully we do a god job. Really miss playing for sometime now. And of course, it's Half the Battle's first show in two (2) years so you're bound to see something special. It's also FREE in case you're asking. If you live far from Molino, Bacoor, Cavite, use your entrance money for fare. It's gonna be an awesome night.

Good stuff: Red Sox beating CC and the Yanks. Ellsbury's in a hot streak. Awesome time hanging out yesterday. Lots of music and good food and funny sht to boot. Thanks to Easy for my hat and shirts!

Lion of Judah has plenty of shirt designs but this one does not pop up too often. Maybe it's the weird design? Lion head on a locomotive? Cool color way though. Check out LOJ if you haven't already.

Pretty cool weather today. A little bit rainy but the friendly rain and not the storm/typhoon type. So hangin out later will be a great idea.
