Go Tigers!

The UAAP Season is once again upon us and UST is standing at 2-1 after suffering a setback from Adamson. UST is considered the dark horse in this tournament and with Juniors MVP Kevin Ferrer filling in the void when Ababou and Mirza left, UST might have a chance to win it all. We also have a strong slotman in Karim Abdul (no Jabar?). Next up is strong favorites FEU this Saturday. It will be a good test if the two early wins are flukes. We'll see.

Bali Hai.

Recently I've hit a snag in posting up new or alternative vegie selections you can check out. Well, fear no more, as I recently discovered Bali Hai Garden Restaurant along Visayas Ave. (almost beside McDonald's). I initially dismissed the idea of them having a vegie selection but gave them a try nonetheless. They have an entire page dedicated to their vegetarian selection and its varied.

Check it out: vegie lumpiang shanghai, shawarma and curry. All good but especially lumpiang shanghai and the serving is enormous and the price is pretty fair and reasonable. Ever heard of a vegie sharwarma? Didn't think it can be pulled off but the guys at Bali Hai did a good job. Nice venue too. Looks like an old garden of an old big house which was converted in a resto/beer garden.

Cursed 'Mother' shirt.

Who doesn't like Cursed? They were an awesome band who existed to destroy everything in their path, leaving a tail of destruction in their wake. They broke up when their van was broken into in the middle of the our and all members were disillusioned to continue. This was a latter era shirt of Cursed and the design is what you would call "creepy-awesome".

Good stuff: Red Sox rolling and on top of the AL, The First Step 'What We Know', hanging out and doing something new...

Adobo?

Used to love adobo but when it comes to the vegie variant, I guess it just really couldn't come close to the meat-oriented version. This one is from Likha Diwa. I guess it's the texture or the "adobo oil" that just makes it different. Nice try though.

Review: M.O.F. 'Most Offensive Fact' CD-R.

MOF was one of the bands that really created a good impression on me when we did the last New Blood show. That was the first time I saw them play and I was blown away. This CD-R contains nine (9) tracks of furious hardcore punk. I really can't place them or think about a specific band they sound like but they definitely take their influences from the local 80's punk bands (think Dead Ends) and injected their own elements to the sound, giving it an angrier perspective. Unfortunately this CD-R does not contain a lyric sheet or something. Would have loved to hear what they had to say. As usual, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. In the meantime, check this three-piece outfit out. Contact: mofcore@gmail.com.

Baguio show this Saturday.

Check out this almost "all-local" Baguio City show this Saturday. They got bands from Pangasinan visiting so this is a good chance to showcase the local scene in the north. The guys from Awakened Hope Collective just keep bringin' it.

HTB is back!

Finally got some good news going here! One of the best bands to come out of our local shores is playing their first show in two years! HALF THE BATTLE is back and this promises to be a really awesome show! Check out the line-up if you doubt me. Plus, it will be held in my hometown. Probably be hangin out the whole day and an after party with the crew from Sunday St. Fck yes.

Good stuff: Red Sox winning 1-0 in 16 innings against the Rays. Awesome job by Beckett and the bullpen in shutting TB down and a hot night for the "Laser Show".

Margherita @ Maginhawa.

I recently tried this small pizza/pasta place somewhere in Maginhawa St. I forgot the name but it was beside 'Al-Fakhr' restaurant. I got this Margherita pizza and it has all the right elements; good mozarella cheese, basil, fresh tomatoes and a nice crust at a reasonable price too. Try this, it's surprisingly good.

Review: Jahannam 'Demo' CD-R.

Jahannam rose from the ashes of Omerta and they play in the same vein with Jahannam probably doing a more 'epic' approach than Omerta. This demo was recorded live using Sannee's trusted videocam. It includes four (4) tracks, including an instrumental intro, and ending with a nine-minute song entitled 'Dear God'. Easily comparable to bands like Isis and a clear His Hero is Gone influence. With a better recording, I can see this band really making a dent in the local scene. Includes an inlay but unfortunately, no lyrics were included. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though. No contact info provided. Try the email add in the Eat All You Can review.

Reign Supreme 'Straight Ahead rip'

Sorry for the whole week with no updates. This has been a hard week to go through since one of my closest friends lost his kids during their birth. My condolences brother. They were laid to rest this morning and its now time to start the healing process and the recovery. They incurred a HUGE hospital bill in the process. If you want to help, shoot me an e-mail at stillillhc@gmail.com so I can send you the details on how you can help. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.

I'll be selling some stuff online to raise some funds and help out.

What we got right now is a Reign Supreme 'Straight Ahead Lion' rip. Awesome band and a classic design to pay tribute to. The Reign Supreme 'American Violence' 7" is such an awesome record. 'Testing the Limits...' was nowhere near it.

Guest: Denver, Champion.

Guest starring in this blog again is Denver (Bystorm) with a classic Champion shirt. Red ink on athletic grey shirt. Good combination. The rain has not stopped for a couple of days now. Congrats to Danj for the birth of his baby boy Rio but unfortunately his twin did not make it so condolence on that regard. It's a bittersweet day.

Atomgevitter @ Ten02, July 12.

We have another fine touring band this side of Southeast Asia. Atomgevitter and Family Man from Germany will be thrashin the whole place with a whole slew of fastcore bands. Seems like a Pilipinas Fast Fest part 2 or something. Eat All You Can will be playing and also a rare appearance from Kill Ratio so go out there, show your support by paying the entrance, grab some merch and party on a Wednesday night!

Eat All You Can 'Gluttony' Demo CD-R.

Finally got this demo from Eat All You Can which is made up of veterans of the Malolos City area which are made up of well hardcore kids on the larger side of the spectrum. This kicks off with Michael Buffer asking you if you're ready to rumble and breaks out in a familiar intro. All the songs have local food commercials for intros but make no mistake about it, the songs are ripping powerviolence in the vein of Spazz or Lack of Interest. 10 songs in all with a photocopied insert for a lyric sheet which does not disappoint. The recording is OK considering its a demo but a nice studio would have made this a real killer demo. Catch them at the Atomgevitter/Family Man show on the 12th of July. Contact; blkmrkt69@yahoo.com.

Fckd Up 'Generations'.

Fckd Up has been a band for a long time and they are one of those bands that you just learn to love. This is a 'Generation' tee from a latter era of Fckd Up. Cool shirt and nice design with the Fckd Up logo at the back. Check it.

Flattbush @ Ten02!

Excellent job by Mr. Crapsalad on one of the songs done by Flattbush last night @ Ten02. The place was jampacked and rockn and Flattbush f'n destroyed the place. Really great set. Another surprise was the set by Los Indios Bravos. Yes. The only full sets I was able to catch last night. Sigh.

Potato strings.

Can't believe its July already. Signs of new things to come. Old stuff died a couple of weeks ago and we're trying to move on. Bystorm will still record the 'Sumalangitnawa' full-length with the help of some friends, I don't know if Rush IxDx will push through but I'm trying to start something new so you better hope it pushes through.

Got this idea for a Shakey's cheese pizza from Mr. McMarouf, just request for potato strings in your pizza and it will look and taste like you have shredded bacon all over it. Really good stuff.
